This Blog Now "Revolution-Powered"
D, of DCenters fame, issued a challenge today to the soccer blogging community: he asks, no demands, for more team-specific blogs, presumably as a vehicle to allow more fronting and name-calling. As a fan of name-calling (why you DC-United-loving, page-teasing sons-a-bitches!!), I'm going to stand by my team(s) in their respective leagues.
Beginning Monday, October 9, 2006, this blog will offer at least one post per day* on something to do with the New England Revolution. I can make no similar promise for my other team, the Portland Timbers, who don't receive anything like the coverage of a Major League Soccer team (which might have something to do with minor-league status and a 2006 season flame-out....not to worry guys, we all still like you very, very much). I'll try to catch them once a week in the regular season and, hell, once a month (?) in the off-season.
Now, some further ground rules, beginning with the asterisk above:
* The "post-per-day" rule applies only during MLS's regular season. I'm not going to strain to find copy when no one's making it for me. In the off-season, though, I will still do one post a week minimum.
After that, only one other rule applies:
1) D mentions "shameless homerism" in his call to arms. I can't do homerism, at least not by seeing happy things where this is only pain and incompetence. Don't get me wrong: I'll always root for them (at least till MLS gets a team out in the Pacific Northwest, where I now live - then the Revs will shift to being "my Eastern Conference team"), even when they suck, but I won't pretend they don't suck. My DNA isn't programmed to handle that.
All right. I'm off to change the header on the blog to reflect the new mission....
